Recently humanitarian and charitable organizations have encountered significant tariffs when trying to import equipment and supplies. We will purchase available items in Ghana.

                                             Xray 

There is an urgent need to equip the medical centre with an ultra sound,  xray, and other diagnostic equipment. New equipment can be purchased in Ghana.  $50,000 will provide a for a portable unit. A larger unit costs more.

Urgent Need:   A Doctor

The SMC needs more Doctors.  Dr. Young, the only MD/surgeon,  has a very heavy schedule and requests help to serve the population of 120,000. She is presently in the U.S. for medical treatment for her husband Bob.  The SMC is without a doctor now.

A substantial annual increase in the SMC budget,  will provide the flexibility to hire qualified staff.

                                                  Staff Housing 

Available housing in rural areas is always very limited. This remote location makes it hard to recruit and retain staff.  Good accommodations are needed  to encourage skilled nursing staff to stay. $60,000 would build either  a  4 unit junior staff , or a 2 unit  Senior staff complex  Please help.
 

                                    Children's Ward           

                     
Build, equip and furnish a children's ward at the hospital.  Plans await funding. The children now share the men's ward. Cost $800,000.

Saboba Medical Centre Student Sponsorships
The Saboba Medical Centre awards the scholarships to medical students. Each student signs a bond  agreeing to work in Saboba. 

R.N. License -     $2000.00 a year for 3 years for a total of $6000.
RNs train at the Bawku Presbyterian Nurses Training College  

Medical Assistant.- $2000.00 for the 3 years for a total of $6000. 
MA's train at Rural Health Training School in Kintampo.  

Nurse Anesthetist. - $3000.00 for the 3 years, for a total of $9000.
Nurse Anesthetists train at Komfo Anokye Hospital in Kumasi.

Medical School -$4,000 a year  for 5 years for a total of $20,000.
Training of Medical Doctors is at the  University of Ghana Medical School in Accra,  and the School of Medical Sciences at  the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.

Clean, Repair and Paint 

The plaster is flaking, and dangerous mold is growing on all of the walls. The toilets and showers need repair.  The interior and exterior of the buildings need to be cleaned, plastered and painted. Cabinets and shelves will be installed. Cost: $25,000

Fence:    the Saboba Medical Centre property.

Rain gutters:   on all buildings to capture rain water and and cisterns for storage. 

Septic Tanks

Repair or rebuild the septic system for all buildings. The septic tanks are old and troublesome.  Each tank needs to be cleaned out after many  years of neglect due to lack of funds.  Or build new septic tank systems for all buildings.   Cost unknown.  We encourage a company that specializes in Septic systems to volunteer to do this project. 

Nutrition Education Centre

Establish a Nutrition Education Centre, to train mothers on the proper nutrition of their children to prevent and treat malnutrition.  An experienced grant writer is requested to volunteer to write a grant application to fund this project.

We invite a researcher  to do a scientific study on benefits of using the dried leaves of the Moringa Tree as a food supplement in the treatment and  prevention of malnutrition. 

Dental Services   A dental chair has been donated and further upgrades are needed to complete the suite.

Request the donation of funds to purchase and install a new autoclave.

We would like to develop a system of a monthly rotation of dentists, to serve for a minimum of 6 days, on a 3 year cycle.  Volunteers serve at their own expense, and on their own schedule.  

Non-Ghanaian dentists must apply for a temporay license.  Contact us for an application.

Missionary Volunteers
Recruiting a missionary dentist for a long term assignment.

Recruiting  3-4 missionary R.Ns for a long term assignment.

Each volunteer arranges for all financial support.

MD and DDS applicants  must be licensed through the Ghana Medical and Dental Council before being allowed to work in the country.  

RN applicants must be licenced throught the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Council before being allowed to work in the country.
